SUMMARY:Andy Cohen
DESCRIPTION:Andy Cohen grew up in a house with a piano and a lot of Dixieland Jazz records\, amplified after a while by a cornet that his dad got him. At about fifteen\, he got bitten by the Folk Music bug\, and soon got to hear records by Big Bill Broonzy and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band\, both of which reminded him of the music he grew up to. At sixteen\, he saw Reverend Gary Davis\, and his course was set. He knew he had it in him to follow\, study\, perform and promote the music of the southeast quadrant\, America’s great musical fountainhead. Although he’s done other things\, a certain amount of writing and physical labor from dish washing and railroading to archeology\, playing the old tunes is what he does best. \n  \nPay as you are able Admission $15 Member Discounts Available

SUMMARY:Dan & Faith Concert at Church of the Good Shepherd
DESCRIPTION:Dan and Faith are a touring New Hampshire-based husband and wife singer-songwriter duo who describe their music as dream-inspired folk. Daniel Senie (guitar\, banjo\, harmonica\, vocals) and Faith Senie (mandolin\, acoustic bass guitar\, ukulele\, mountain dulcimer\, vocals) tap into the imagery captured in dreams\, as well as everyday life\, in crafting their original songs that tell the stories of people and places\, real and imagined. Among the duo’s five studio albums are Who We Are (2024)\, Then and Now (2020)\, Seeking (2016)\, and Simple Grace (2014). An earlier album and a live EP are no longer available. \nDan and Faith’s sound is rooted in tight\, interwoven vocal harmonies\, supported by varied instrumentation and an occasional a cappella treatment. In live performances and radio interviews\, they introduce or follow most songs with additional storytelling about the characters and places in each one\, and the inspiration behind them. \nOpening: \nDeborah Wuitowicz\n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nPresented with support from: \n \nFolknet is supported inn part through a Cuyahoga Arts and Culture grant

SUMMARY:Sing for Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:In August\, Folknet and Roots of American Music presented Singing for Justice\, an event pairing a biographic movie about folk singing activist Faith Petric\, followed by a group of local performers whose repertoire has always included the sorts of songs to unite people for justice. You may know many of these songs\, and others are a wonderful discovery. The urge to sing along is natural.\nFrom early days of Folknet\, we’ve provided a chance for group sings to fulfill this need. There is strength in community\, strength in song. We invite you to share your own favorite songs of\npeace\, justice\, and solidarity in a community singing session at The Church of the Good Shepherd\n23599 Cedar Road\, Beachwood (between Green & Richmond Roads) on Saturday\, September 13\, 3;00 to 5:00 pm.

SUMMARY:Deb Cowan Concert
DESCRIPTION:Debra Cowan was once asked what kind of songs she writes. Her reply? “Bad ones. Besides\, there are so many good songs out there written by others and they should be sung.” Her captivating warm alto carries each folk song she chooses with such emotion that you’ll forget that they were written by others. She performs a cappella and with guitar in the great tradition of folk singers like Joan Baez and Judy Collins\, with a clear vocal that calls forth the ghosts of long past but can also offer a more modern urban landscape. In her newest release\, a live recording entitled “Among Friends”\, she demonstrates her ability to interact with her audience and have them enthusiastically sing along on choruses and refrains.
